Celebrate the Fourth of July with the Birmingham Zoo
The Birmingham Zoo invites families and friends to come out this Fourth of July weekend and visit the Zoo’s animals, including Ajani – the third male African Elephant residing at Trails of Africa. Enjoy all the Zoo has to offer this holiday ... weekend, such as exploring the Zoo’s newest exhibit, Trails of Africa, cooling off in the Foam Zone and experiencing an up-close and personal look at the Red Diamond Sea Lion Splash Show. In honor of our nation’s birthday, all active and retired military and their dependents can take advantage of free Zoo admission from Friday, July 1 to Monday, July 4, with valid military identification.
While at the Zoo, visitors can stop by and celebrate the birthdays of Birmingham’s three most patriotic pigs! All born on Independence Day in 2006, Star, Spangle and Banner are female African red river hogs. This year they will celebrate their 5th birthday. The African red river hog exhibit is located in the Savannah and features a lookout station where visitors can watch Star, Spangle and Banner enjoy their favorite watering hole.
During the holiday weekend the Zoo will have various activities and animal demonstrations for guests to enjoy. Make sure to check the daily schedule upon your arrival. You won’t want to miss the Alligator, Giraffe and Pelican feedings, Camel rides, the Lorikeet Aviary, and much, much more.
